Marged Pendrell

Marged PendrellI am a visual artist living and working (bilingually) in Snowdonia, North Wales. I have exhibited widely both nationally and internationally. My practice is often rooted in the land, and I am particularly interested in the cultural histories that affect the connections and disconnections to ‘place’. I work primarily in 3D using mixed media, with most of the work informed by extensive research.

During my residency at Áras Éanna Art Centre on Inis Oírr, Galway, I became interested in the journey of St Cybi from the Aran islands to Caer Gybi and the connections between our lands on either side of the Irish Sea.

My proposed project for Ports, Past and Present will be focussed on the port of Caergybi/ Holyhead. The intention is to work on a timeline flotilla of small vessels, highlighting chosen times and narratives throughout the history of its connection to Ireland.

Although underpinned by research, my response at times will be fictional and explored in a wider, imaginative context.

As an extension to the flotilla, I aim to engage groups within the community to collaborate and create a textile work on a large scale, 'Cwch Caergybi’. This will be based on, and in response to, their contemporary lives and histories around Caergybi/Holyhead. It will be permanently installed in a specific site.
