Zillah Bowes is a filmmaker, photographer and poet. Her recent work includes ‘Staying (Aros Mae)’, a fiction film with Ffilm Cymru Wales, BFI and BBC which won the Grand Jury Prize at Premiers Plans Angers Film Festival, and ‘Green Dark’, a solo exhibition of photographs commissioned by Ffotogallery and funded by the Arts Council of Wales.
Zillah has won the Wordsworth Trust Prize, a Creative Wales Award and a Literature Matters Award from the Royal Society of Literature. Her poems have appeared in Mslexia, Wasafiri, Poetry Wales and The North among others, and her performances include Hay Festival, Keats House and Tate Modern.
Her Ports Past and Present project will investigate – in photography and poetry of place – the meeting of land and sea, and people who cross them, in Fishguard and surrounding area.
My starting point for my Ports Past and Present project is the relationship between land and sea. I am interested in exploring the porousness between the two: where and how they meet, and if or how this defines separateness and nation.

By being resident over several non-consecutive periods of time, and walking and re-walking Fishguard and environs, I will identify and capture my understandings in photography and poetry. I am keen to connect with anyone interested in participating.
