Ports, Past and Present

Peter Stevenson and Jacob Whittaker

Jacob Whittaker is a sound artist and filmmaker based in Aberteifi, and Peter Stevenson is a writer, illustrator and folklorist from Aberystwyth.

We have worked together on many film-based projects over the years, for AONB Gower, Aberystwyth University, DURESS, Cymerau, and the John Roberts Romany Project.

We plan to base ourselves in Fishguard, making a film and a book about the space between Wales and Ireland, focusing on the people who earn their living on the water, particularly those on and around the ferry. At a time of shifting boundaries and thoughts we aim to give a voice to those more marginalised individuals and forgotten everyday voices, seeking out lesser known and overlooked stories and creating a film that weaves together the visuals of their world with their voices, poetry, sounds, songs and music, old and new.
