Dublin Bay consists of seals and stories, culture and cuisine, birdlife and building projects, and mudflats and migration. In this talk, Dr James Louis Smith of the Ports, Past and Present project will explore some of the unexpected interconnected stories that bring the past to life while tying city to Bay, history to biosphere and past to present. As the ferry enters or exits the Irish Sea on its journey to or from Holyhead in Wales, it passes through a designated 300km² UNESCO biosphere containing a population of 300,000 adjacent to a busy port and national capitol city. In its story-gathering work in the region, Ports, Past and Present has captured a cluster of these centuries-old intertwinings.
