Ports, Past and Present

March 2021

The postcards for Dublin Port focus on trade and the movement of goods. I took a boat trip on the Liffey, viewing the port from the sea, after which I selected two images to work with. The stencils for the postcards were made on a Riso machine and the postcards were then printed on a manual Gestetner Neo-Cyclostyle Duplicating machine c. 1890, in multiples of fifty. I also produced one-off ‘negatives’ of each image.

I have had a stamp made by Rubber Stamps Ireland, August Engraving, which reads:

Julie Merriman | Ports, Past and Present
https://portspastpresent.eu/creativeconnections

This will be stamped on the back, at the base of all the postcards.  I have also had individual stamps made for each of the ports:

Dublin Port, Holyhead, Fishguard, Pembroke Dock, Rosslare.

These will be stamped on the side of each postcards accordingly.
